To not miss your window of opportunity, talk with your insurance agent starting 3 months before your birth month. There are different options available to fit your needs and budget.

A: Part A of Original Medicare covers hospitals; Part B covers most doctors and other provider services. Part D is prescription drug coverage. Part C combines Part A, Part B and/or Part D.

A: Original Medicare pays 80% of the approved charges for hospitals, physicians and other medical services. A Medicare supplement sold by private insurance companies can help pay some of the health care costs that Medicare does not pay, like copayments, co-insurance and deductibles. A Medicare Supplement works with your original Medicare and is accepted by any provider contracted with Medicare. It is important to choose a stand-alone prescription drug plan in additional to a Medicare Supplement plan.

A: No, you do not need to enroll in Original Medicare. It is to your advantage to discuss with an insurance agent the pros and cons of Original Medicare in lieu of Employer Group Insurance. It is very important to discuss leaving your Employer Group Insurance with your Employer Benefits advisor before making any decisions.

A: Some people will get Part A and Part B automatically, while others will need to sign up for Part A and Part B. Contact the Social Security Office for more information. If you delay your enrollment into Medicare Part B and Medicare Part D without having creditable coverage, Medicare could impose a permanent monthly penalty.

A: After receiving Social Security disability benefits for 24 months, you automatically get Part A and Part B. At this point, you should contact your insurance agent to discuss the plans in which you may be eligible to enroll.
